SMRLS Litigation: Objection! Responding to and Making Objections in Civil Legal Aid Trials

Details: This training will provide an overview of common civil trial objections, including tips on how to make objections and how to respond to objections. The training will also discuss general things to consider when making objections, such as how to navigate pro se opposing parties, how to balance a judge's preferences with needing to litigate your case, and preserving issues for appeal.

Presenters: Alida Weidensee is a housing attorney with Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services (SMRLS). She started with SMRLS as a Saeks Fellow in 2022, spending much of her third year of law school gaining practical experience in the housing unit. Her time at SMRLS has presented her with numerous opportunities to hone her litigation skills. 

Desiree Stormont is a Civil Family Law Attorney with Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services (SMRLS). She has 11 years of experience litigating both criminal and civil cases. Prior to her current role, Desiree served as a criminal prosecutor, specializing in domestic violence and homicide cases. She brings a wealth of courtroom experience and practical insights on how to best prepare for objections during litigation.
