Protection and Advocacy for Voting Access (PAVA)

Details: The Voting Rights Access Project (VRAP) is a program created by Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid's Minnesota Disability Law Center to support the broader government initiative known as the Protection and Advocacy for Voting Access (PAVA) program.  PAVA was established under the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) and aims to ensure that individuals with disabilities can fully participate in the electoral process, including registering to vote, casting ballots, and accessing polling sites.  This CLE will educate individuals regarding Voting Accessibility Rights and train participants to serve as volunteers (Accessibility Advocates) able to effectively evaluate polling precincts across Minnesota. 

Presenters: Chad Wilson is a supervising attorney with Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid at the Minnesota Disability Law Center ("MDLC").  He supervises MDLC’s voting rights, outreach, and community services integration teams.  His practice focuses on disability access and helping people with disabilities obtain the support they need to live in their most intergraded settings.  Chad has a long-standing commitment to advancing disability rights through his work at MDLC. 

Cynthia Haskin is the Pro Bono and Training Coordinator for Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid.  Prior to coming to this role in July 2024, she was a Senior Attorney at Philadelphia Legal Assistance (PLA) having worked for 28 years in the Public Benefits and Migrant Farmworker Units and co-founded PLA’s Medical Legal Community Partnership.  She started her career at Community Legal Services in Philadelphia serving as an attorney for 4 years in their Family Advocacy Unit.
