Finding Your Wellness Whys

Details: Why do we struggle to stick with wellness goals?  This engaging session explores the deeper motivations behind our wellness intentions using the “5 Whys” method.  Participants will learn how to reframe wellness practices as meaningful opportunities—not just tasks on a to-do list—and gain practical tips for incorporating well-being into even the busiest schedules.  For legal aid professionals and volunteers whose work often involves high stress and emotional intensity, caring for our own well-being is essential to sustainably serving others.  Discover how aligning your wellness efforts with your core values can lead to lasting, positive change.

Presenter: EG Nelson has worked on health and wellness initiatives professionally for over 15 years.  While at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota's Center for Prevention, she worked closely with community members as well as institutions to identify policy, systems and environmental changes that facilitate healthy behaviors, such as bringing EBT to local farmers markets to ensure equitable food access, reimagining cities centered around walking and biking as transportation, and adoption of policies limiting where tobacco products can be sold and consumed.

EG earned her Group Fitness Certification from the Athletics and Fitness Association of America in 2019 and became a National Academy of Sports Medicine certified personal trainer shortly thereafter.  Since then, she has worked in a variety of private and non-profit settings helping individuals reach their health and wellness goals.  This past May, she retired from corporate America to focus her energy on group fitness and coaching.

Outside of the gym, you can find EG watching Minnesota Lynx basketball, biking everywhere, or singing karaoke.  EG loves cooking and baking all sorts of plant-based creations, and has 12 ribbons from the Minnesota State Fair for different food, baked goods, and edible art.  EG lives in South Minneapolis with her partner (J!) and cats.
