Presenters: Peter Hemberger is a Senior Leadership Attorney with Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services. Peter primarily practices housing law and is also the Lead Housing Attorney for SMRLS's southwest region. Peter has been with SMRLS since 2017. Before joining SMRLS, Peter was in private practice doing general commercial litigation in rural southern Minnesota.
Najad Haji is a Housing Social Worker with Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services. Najad provides direct support to clients navigating housing instability, including assistance with housing applications, advocacy, and connection to community resources. She collaborates closely with attorneys, case managers, and partner organizations to address client needs and promote housing stability.
Before joining SMRLS in 2025, Najad worked as a CADI Case Manager and gained experience in clinical therapy as a Provisionally Licensed Clinical Social Worker at Secure Base Counseling Center. She also served as a Mental Health Case Manager at Minnesota Mental Health Clinic, supporting clients through care coordination, therapeutic interventions, and advocacy. In addition, she has a background in homecare and hospice, providing compassionate care and resource navigation for individuals and families.
Erika Boyer-Kern, MSW, LISW is a Housing Social Worker at Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services (SMRLS), where she helps low-income clients navigate housing instability and supports their mental health during housing loss. She previously spent 10 years at the Committee Against Domestic Abuse (CADA) as an advocate and supervisor supporting victims of domestic and sexual violence.
