Agenda:

Learn best practices for working with interpreters to communicate with clients. Topics will include:

  • Role and responsibilities of an interpreter
  • Simultaneous v. consecutive interpretation
  • Difference between translation and interpretation
  • How to arrange the room for the most effective interview
  • Speaking through an interpreter
  • Recognizing and addressing problems with language/translation
  • Challenges and best practices when using language line or phone interpretation
  • Working with professional interpreters v. volunteer interpreters
  • Interpreter ethics
  • Attorney-client confidentiality and interpreters

CLE: 2.0 hours of Standard MN CLE credit will be applied for.
