Cash Grants for Low-Income Families Could Increase

LSAP Staff Attorney Jessica Webster Comments

Minnesota is considering a $100 per month increase in the amount it provides in cash grants for low-income families as part of the Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP).

For nearly 30 years, the amount of these grants - aimed at helping with housing, transportation and other necessities - has remained flat. If the legislature approves the monthly increase, it will help over 30,000 struggling Minnesota families make ends meet.

In noting that the increase is overdue, Jessica Webster, staff attorney with the Legal Services Advocacy Project said, "Even though $100 doesn't solve the problem, it would make a meaningful difference to families."  Read more in the Star Tribune.
