This training will cover the symptoms and elements leading to a diagnosis of fibromyalgia and what distinguishes it from other pain disorders. The trainers will discuss objective tests used when making the diagnosis, current medical authorities, and treatment options for the disease. The training will also address vocational assessment and job placement of persons with fibromyalgia and/or pain disorders. Finally, Ethel Schaen will cover challenges in SSI applications on the basis of fibromyalgia. She will cover documenting the disability with a recent fibromyalgia medical assessment form which she has developed. She will discuss how to handle combinations of physical and mental disabilities and the Polaski factors as applied to subjective complaints of fatigue and the Ness treating physician rule. Ms. Schaen will also cover the unique challenges of credibility assessments in fibromyalgia cases.
